Pause automatic logging

Stop the logbook recording for a set time when you're walking, on a train or doing something personal — with a countdown so it's obvious, and a notification when it resumes.

Automatic recording can't tell the difference between driving a van and sitting on a tram. Most of the time that doesn't matter — you classify the trip private afterwards and move on. But when you know in advance that the next half hour isn't a drive, you can pause logging instead of cleaning up after it.

Pause it

  1. Open Trip Logging and choose Pause logging.

  2. Pick how long: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours.

  3. Optionally pick a reason — Not driving, Walking or running, On public transport or Personal, not work.

Two hours is the longest pause available. It's deliberately short: a pause is for a known interruption, not a way to turn logging off. If you want recording off for longer, change your logging hours instead — that's the control built for it.

The reason is optional and you can leave the default. It exists so the record says why there's a gap, which is worth having if anyone ever asks what happened between 2pm and 3pm.

While it's paused

The live card on your lock screen shows a countdown, so it's obvious at a glance that nothing is being recorded and when it will start again. That's the whole point of showing it: a silent pause and a broken app look identical from the outside.

When it ends

Logging resumes on its own and you get a notification saying so. It never restarts quietly.

If you start driving before the pause is up, recording resumes anyway once you're clearly at driving speed — a pause is meant to catch the walk to the station, not to miss the drive that follows it.

Ending a trip that was never a drive

If something has already started recording and it isn't a drive, you can end it without it landing in the logbook as a trip. Open the active trip and choose the option to stop it as a non-drive.

Pausing is free on every plan, including Drive, because it belongs to recording rather than to the paid export.
