Get Axlerun on your phone, and grant the location, motion and notification permissions that automatic trip logging depends on.

Axlerun runs on iPhone, Android and in a web browser. The web app is handy at a desk, but automatic trip logging needs the phone app — that's where location and motion live. If you only do one thing here, install the app on the phone that travels in the vehicle.

Get the app

Install Axlerun from the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. From a computer, open the download page on this site and point your phone's camera at the QR code — it opens straight to the right store.

Grant permissions the right way

First launch walks you through three permissions, in order. These are the whole reason trips log by themselves, so it's worth getting them right — the app tells you which option to pick at each prompt.

  1. Location — choose Always Allow on iPhone, or Allow all the time on Android. "While using the app" looks fine but stops recording the moment the phone is locked, which is exactly when you're driving.

  2. Motion & Fitness (iPhone) or Physical activity (Android) — lets Axlerun notice when driving starts, so it only runs GPS while you're moving. This is what keeps trip logging from draining the battery.

  3. Notifications — for rego, service and logbook reminders. On Android this also keeps automatic logging running after you lock the phone or switch apps, so it's not optional there.

Axlerun doesn't ask for the camera during setup. It requests it later, and only when you actually use it — scanning a receipt or fine, or taking a vehicle photo.

Faster sign-in with Face ID or fingerprint

On your first sign-in, Axlerun offers to turn on biometric login — Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone, Face Unlock or Fingerprint on Android. Your details are stored encrypted on the device and never sent to us. Tap Skip for now if you'd rather sign in with your password each time.

If trips still don't record

Phones quietly claw back background location after updates, and Android adds battery-saver rules on top. If logging stops, the fixes are all in one place.
