Assistant settings

Choose whether the assistant starts listening the moment it opens, and manage its microphone access.

Two small settings control how the assistant behaves. They're under Settings → AI Assistant.

What you can change

Start listening — when on, opening the assistant starts listening so you can talk straight away. When off, it opens to the keyboard, and you tap the mic to switch to voice.
Microphone — reflects the app's real microphone permission. Toggling it either asks for access or takes you to system Settings to change it.

The operating system's microphone permission is the single source of truth — there's no separate app-level switch. And as on the assistant itself, speech is transcribed on your device, not sent to a server.
