NSW asks more of a fleet than most states do. Once a vehicle passes five years old it needs a safety inspection every year before you can renew, and the green slip is a separate purchase you have to line up first. What New South Wales does differently
Over five years old means a pink slip every year
In NSW a light vehicle more than five years old generally needs a safety inspection before its registration can be renewed, and the report is only valid for six months from the date it is issued. NSW is the only state that works this way: everywhere else an inspection is triggered by a sale or a transfer, not by the calendar. For a fleet of ageing vans that is a recurring obligation per vehicle, on its own date.
The green slip is a separate purchase, and the terms have to match
CTP in NSW is bought from a licensed insurer before you renew, not collected inside the registration payment the way Victoria collects the TAC charge. If you want to move a vehicle to a shorter registration term, you need CTP bought for that same term. Two things to line up per vehicle, per renewal, in the right order.
